If hip-hop is a cottonmouth society filled with a dry-mouth of talent then Chantay Williams ala Young Chan or simply Chan (pronounced Shawn) is the refreshing glass of water that the society needed. Chan is definitely proving herself to be a catalyst of change in the male dominated world known as hip hop. A multi-talented mc, dj, and producer, I started off ryming at a young age, I love music. All aspects and I needed a job so I talked my way into working for Foxie 105 (in Columbus, GA) at age 15. I was an intern for about 2 weeks, next thing you know, Im on the air getting paid to do a job that I never really thought about, I just knew wanted to be closer to my goal in music but once I started I actually took a liking to it. Mixing, and staying in touch with the people is a tough job, after learning all the techniques involved and what not I took an extreme interest in it and I really understood the role of a dj as well as why they deserve the utmost respect, it also paved the way for production. Hailing from Columbus, GA Chan began rappin at the age of 11 but didnt take to the stage until age 15. The radio station defintely paved the way because I was able to freestlye on air a lot and a lot of the on air personalities supported me especially the music director at the time who gave me a lot of performance opportunities. Being an army brat originally from Columbus, GA and eventually settling down there with her mother Chan openly admits living in Columbus is both a plus and a negative for the young mc who sadly admits, support here is tough, but also admits that shes met a lot of other acts and continues to form bonds in Columbus as well as Atlanta which she says. is just a hop skip and a jump, from Columbus. Not to mention being in a small city gives her the opportunity to compete and hold various titles such as CEO of a local independent label (Psylent Entertainment), Battle Tracks Champion, and pinned as local indpendent artist on the rise by a local magazine. As and artist Chan has made numerous appearances with artists including Syc Omega (NY), Young Myschf (GA), Draztic Tactics (GA), State Property (NC), DjOutbreak (GA), Jade Foxx (FL); Dj SouthPaw (FL), Dj Sunny (Amsterdam), Dj Jigida (NY), Los7900 (GA); LilMisstress (NJ), and the list goes on. Shes appeared on over 50 natioinally released mix tapes and her company Psylent Entertainment released Psoundz of Yancey St which received critical acclaim and birthed 3 radio singles and open the doors to talent show performances. The anticipated follow up Broken Psylence, also received excellent reviews and opened up a new fan base for Chan, requesting a solo album. Chan is currently working on a mixtape featuring production from some of the hottest independent producers which will feature exclusive freestyles. I really look at this as a big opportunity for exposure. A chance to really show my lyrical ability. After the mixtape release look for Chan to began a southeastern tour. I hope this will open a lot of doors for me, music is such a huge part of my life and apart of my expression..
